The new $210 million Consolidated Forensics Laboratory in Washington DC takes up a huge 351,000 square feet and is located near the National Mall. The multi purpose lab can test firearms, run flu tests and even analyze chemicals in potential terror attacks. Colt supplied a controllable Shadoglass LS-2 system to the CFL as a louver screen in 3 banks, covering the south facade of the building. The Shadoglass system is designed to reduce solar heat gain within the building whilst still allowing natural daylight to reach the interior.
To ensure the system was perfect for the building, Colt built a full scale mock-up which underwent a series of accelerated life cycle tests at an independent test house, in which it performed successfully.
